roy and i are moving (we hope!!) to a larger apartment at the end of march.
we need two things and i'd rather pay people i know if possible. if you, someone(s) you know can help please let me know.
1) need help actually moving. there are three medium-heavy desks, two medium-heavy dressers, a bunch of bookshelves and probably a ton of books/ cds in boxes as well as some boxes with kitchen stuff. if possible i'd like to do the majority of moving in one shot. if you (or someone you know) has a truck and a few people to help- we'll pay decent money. i don't want to bother with renting a truck tho, at least i don't think. i'm goign to get quotes from a few of the smaller local moving companies in the next few weeks and will have an idea of how much we are willing to pay. THERE WILL BE NO STEPS ON EITHER END OF MOVE.
2) i need someone to clean the old apartment after everything is out. i can do the floors, but not the bending that would be involved to clean the fridge, stove, bathroom etc. i'll provide all the cleaning materials.
this will all take place mid/ end of march.
again, we will pay professionals if need be but would rather see our money go to people who we know, esp those who could use the extra cash.
thanx
(roy- please post in your LJ) |

ok austin people---
sometime in the spring roy-boy and i will be moving to a larger apartment. YAY. if we are lucky we can even have room to invite friends!
anway, i have two requests.
1) any recommendations of local movers. we have a one bedroom but three desks, and lots of bookcases, and lots of boxes of books.
2) we really really need book boxes. we will be happy to pay in either cash or food but we would like to pay less than the going rate that u-haul will charge us.
(note to roy: please x-post)
THANKS |

an FYI----
as I think all of you know, Roy & I have an “open relationship” (polyamorous) and in the years since he & I have been together I have sometimes had other sweeties in my life.
a few months ago he & I decided to officially end our romantic/intimate relationship. We are still very close friends, and consider ourselves family. We are still living together and in the spring will be moving to a larger place. (hopefully one that allows us to have parties on occasion)
For those celebrating Christmas tonite, have a happy and wonderful time.
i'm off to pick up roy boy from work and go see his family. |

sorry i didn't post this earlier in the week:
Transgender Education Network of Texas P.O. Box 2602 Austin, Texas 78768 info@tentex,org http://www.TENTex.org
November 17, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VIGIL TO HONOR MURDER VICTIMS
AUSTIN - On Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 6:30 p.m., the transgender community of Central Texas and its allies will gather for a vigil in downtown Austin on the steps of City Hall to honor those killed because they didn’t conform to traditional gender norms. The event is part of the internationally coordinated 10th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance to be held in more than 90 cities worldwide. This is the seventh year that the vigil has been observed in Austin.
We live in times more sensitive than ever to hatred based violence. Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating. Many of these crimes against transgender individuals remain unreported and unsolved. There is also a great deal of violence and discrimination aimed at the gender diverse population
Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgender — that is, as a transsexual, cross dresser, or otherwise gender-diverse — each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgender people.
DOR Committee Co-Chair, Susan French said, “My son is transgender and I am afraid for him… for his safety and well being. The thought of him being a victim of a crime simply for being who he is just sickens me. The hatred and intolerance needs to stop!”
This event is sponsored by the Transgender Education Network of Texas along with these other area organizations AGLCC; allgo; Alpha Tau chapter of Tri-Ess; Atticus Circle; Austin Alliance for Social Justice; Congregational Church of Austin; CTTGS; Equality Texas; First United Methodist Church; The Gathering Place Worship Center; Grace United Methodist Church; Jewish QT; Katy Koonce, LCSW; Kings N Things; Lutherans Concerned/ Austin Central Texas Chapter; MCC Austin at Freedom Oaks; Out Youth; PFLAG of Austin; Project Transitions; SafePlace; St. Hildegard's Community; Texas Hillel; Trinity United Methodist Church; United Christian Church; UT Gender & Sexuality Center; and the Wildflower Church

| am i a trans ally |
[Nov. 17th, 2008|06:12 pm] |
a few weeks/ months ago a friend was speaking in his LJ about the word "ally" with regard to the trans community and why he doesn't like the word. (note to friend- can you point me back to that post, i can't find it. merci)
In the past few weeks as I’ve prepared my speech for DOR I’ve thought about using the word ally. I’d never stopped to think about the word before but I did this time. I realized that I want to stop using it. For me it is about not wanting to set up an “us/ them” space.
In the past I used the word because I wanted to make it clear both within and without the trans community that I wasn’t trans-identified and therefore couldn’t begin to understand what it is like and that I wasn’t speaking for the trans community. Since I am not trans I don’t know what it is like and would never presume to know. But I don’t know how to differentiate between making sure I don’t sound like I am trying to distance myself from the community (I wonder if using the word ally makes it sound as if i don't want to be mistaken as trans)and making sure that people don't think i am assuming to know what it is like to identify as trans.
thoughts? opinions? jobs? (oh wait, i have a good one. i'm so used to asking LOL) offers of sex? (j/k) |

about two months ago everytime i tried to balance/reconcile my checkbook it was fubar and i couldn't figure out why. i finally quite trying to reconcile it and just accepted the bank's balance minus outstanding debits. since then it has been fine.
just now when i balanced the checkbook, then reconcile with the bank, all my debits had been posted and the bank matched perfectly with my checkbook- no outstanding anything.
never happened before that i can remember.
kinda weird.
and with all the shit that has been happening in my life and those i care about it was nice to have something good happen even if it was trivial. |
